OVERVIEW

An extraordinary SwimRun race at the foot of the Twelve Apostles and 7th Natural Wonder of the World. Twelve sections of swimming and running along this iconic coastline — from white-sand beaches to freezing Atlantic sea, a shipwreck, granite boulder fields, kelp forests, and Maidens Cove. This is the #wildlycool pinnacle of the Torpedo SwimRun African Series.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Team of two equally competent athletes who start and finish together, no more than 10m apart
  • Compulsory gear: Wetsuit (short arms and legs permitted) + Running Shoes + Whistle
  • All entrants must complete and pass an online Ocean Safety Test prior to racing

Race Morning

Compulsory for all athletes to complete safety check-in and shuttle departure at Clifton 4

No private or direct drop-offs allowed at race start

Arrive 30 minutes before your shuttle departure

Show compulsory equipment and have race number written on hand

Be ready in full SwimRun kit before boarding shuttles

Equipment

General Rules

  • All teams must start and finish with the same equipment
  • Teams picking up or dropping off equipment will be disqualified
  • Mandatory gear check before the start

Recommended Equipment

  • Goggles

  • Squirt anti-chafe lube

Not Allowed

  • Floatation larger than 100 cm x 60 cm
  • Any motorised equipment
  • Swim fins longer than 15 cm (measured from toe to end of fin)

Safety

General Safety Rules

  • You are responsible for your own safety — Torpedo is not raced in a controlled environment
  • Never start a swim you are not 100% sure you can finish
  • Both team members must stay together at all times — no more than 20m apart on land, no more than 10m apart during swimming
  • Athletes shall never move further than 10 metres from the trail

Race Organisation May Refuse to Continue If

  • Not equipped with specified compulsory equipment
  • Judged not capable due to fatigue or poor physical condition

Water Entry

Athletes must enter water feet first — diving is not allowed

Llandudno Penalty Box

The only optional swim run-around. If choosing to run around, follow footpath onto beach. Once at exit flag, crew holds you for 10 minutes. Both teammates must stay together — one cannot choose to run while other swims.
